Xiaomi successfully “tapes out” China’s first 3nm smartphone chip

Xiaomi has been rumored to be working on its very own smartphone chip for a while now. Looks like the company has now reached an important milestone.

A report by Chinese media MyDrivers suggests that Xiami has successfully “taped out” the country’s first 3nm smartphone SoC.

The announcement came from the Chief Economist of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology on BRTV, a government-owned television network in China. Below is the announcement video of the same, in Chinese of course, posted by an X user.

Xiaomi’s own smartphone SoC?

The report doesn’t provide details about the CPU or GPU and only mentions that it is a 3nm chip. It also doesn’t specify whether Xiaomi is using TSMC, Samsung, or another node for production.

However, the “tape-out” process in silicon design means the chip has reached the final stage before it’s sent to the manufacturing facility for production. In other words, Xiaomi has successfully completed the design phase and the chip is now ready for fabrication.

Interesting, so Xiaomi is stepping up on the game too, UNISOC on the other side they taped on 4 nm.
Considering that Xiaomi did the same.. maybe Xiaomi will release 2 in house chips? one with 4nm and one with 3nm process?

Hopefully it's an soc and not a small "AI co-processor" or some redacted

The 4nm from Xiaomi was talked before...
Has 8 Gen 1 performance tier. Modem by UNISOC.

And indeed, there are 2 Xiaomi chips and 1 UNISOC coming for 2025:

- Xiaomi "flagship" chip: 3nm ??? , performance better than the 4nm one.
- Xiaomi "mid tier" chip: 4nm N4P, Snapdragon Gen 1 tier, UNISOC modem

- UNISOC "highest" chip: 4nm ???, Snapdragon 888 tier

Turns out the "flagship" Xiaomi chip is just one, the Xring O1

Meanwhile, it is confirmed the following specs:
1+3+4 CPU,
1x Cortex-X925 @ 3.2GHz
3x Cortex-A725 @ 2.6GHz
4x Cortex-A520 @ 2.0GHz

GPU from Imagination Technologies
5G modem from Unisoc.

Expected performance: Dimensity 9200+

Aparently UNISOC helped with the development, so expect UNISOC having a similar CPU structure with slower speeds, but with Mali GPU in a future to call it their "flagship".

Expected performance if ends to be real: Dimensity 8300

And this is interesting... it turns out that the configuration was a 10 core chip!

1747617444298.png

2 Big cores @3.9 Ghz
4 Mid cores @ 3.4 Ghz
2 "Small" cores @ 1.89 Ghz
2 Small cores @ 1.80 Ghz.

Is pending if the 2 "small" cores @ 1.89Ghz is an A7XX or an A5XX.

If is the first is basically what Exynos 2500 could have been.

Also the scores CPU wise is on par with Dimensity 9300+/9400e!!! Is practically near a flagship!

And... Inmortalis? Wait... something is off... unless... Xiaomi always had a plan to release not one but two processors with different targets?

Meanwhile if that is true... UNISOC rumor might be real too.

This one performs much better with 3119 ST scores. Due to using external 5G modem, it seems Xiaomi is stretching the power limit with first true SoC for Android phone. The specs are better than D9400:

  • 2 x X925 3.9GHz (2 x Prime cores)
  • 4 x X4 3.4GHz ? (4 x Performance cores)
  • 2 x A720 1.89GHz ?
  • 2 x A520 1.8GHz ?
  • Mali G925 Immortalis MC16 16CU (extra 4CU than D9400)
Of course, N3P-powered D9500 is coming soon with SME support; so far what I heard X930 with SME will once again leapfrog X925, we shall see...

Xiaomi officially mentioned Xring 01 consists of 19 billions transistors excluding 5G modem.

And seems that this chip will be powering their flagships onwards... don't be surprised if ends powering:
- 15S Pro
- Mi Pad 7 Ultra
- 15T Pro

Source say it is made by TSMC. But they don't specify the actual process. Does anyone know? N3E?

Yeah, as long as they're not sanctioned as part of the People's Liberation Army like Huawei. Well, even then via shell company subterfuge Huawei has been getting chips here and there.
ROC and PRC have had economic ties since the Chen administration, and even moreso since Ma established the full Three Links and signed ECFA. It's normal at this point.
Hopefully this will be one of those examples of trade begetting peace!

What I read is that used also a 4nm process with Imagination GPU... so, maybe that would be their "flagship killer tier processor"?

Can be 2X A720 1.89 and 2X A720 1.8

Unlikely if both cluster are A720 @ similar speed, then it should be 4 x A720. At first, I thought it could be using A725/A525 but since performance cores are likely using X4; then it seems unlikely also.

Maybe that's why Alto cores exist in upcoming D9500; here is the up to date leaks about D9500:

Is that 100 TOPS NPU 💀.
I have seen SoC that uses same cores but different V-F Curves into different cluster.

LMAO I was half right they definitely used finflex here for different V/F Curve.

It seems they have added these A520, only to brag they have 10 core CPUs...

Should be for Standby or video playback anyway a very good SoC and Google Should be ashamed lmao.
